The Hollywood Reporter Partners with Leading International Publications to Produce Film Festival

By: Arts & Entertainment News

The Hollywood Reporter today announced a co-publishing deal with Gulf News, a leading English language news publication in the Middle East, to produce DIFF Daily, the official publication of the Dubai International Film Festival. In a similar deal, The Reporter also announced an exclusive partnership with Cine 21, Korea’s leading consumer weekly film magazine, to publish Pusan Daily, a high-profile bilingual publication to be distributed each day of the Pusan Film Festival.

“We are delighted to be partnering with two such respected and authoritative publications during the Dubai and Pusan Film Festivals,” said Eric Mika, Senior Vice President, Publishing Director, The Hollywood Reporter. “Gulf News is the undisputed English language paper in the region, and Cine 21 is renowned for its expertise and analysis of Korean, Asian and international film. In the growing and competitive marketplace of buying and selling content, these international partnerships are another example of our goal to be first on the global pulse of the business of entertainment.”

The Reporter will also develop exclusive digital and video content for its worldwide audience at Hollywoodreporter.com to complement the print dailies at each film festival.

As the official publication of the Dubai International Film Festival, DIFF Daily will provide more than 3,000 festival participants with timely international and market news each day between December 9 and 16, 2007. The Reporter will supply international industry news and editorial content, while Gulf News will deliver articles, interviews and discussions revolving around local and regional film talent. Gulf News, established in 1978, has a circulation of more than 90,000.

“DIFF is extremely excited about the new partnership with The Hollywood Reporter,” said Abdulhamid Juma, chairman of DIFF. “The festival has always attracted great interest from members of the global, regional and local film industries and also brings large numbers of international media. For this reason, we want to create a compelling news platform by partnering with a prestigious entertainment trade publication so the attendees of DIFF will have daily access to information, news and views on industry-specific events and personalities.”

Pusan Daily will have an average daily circulation of nearly 16,000 during the Pusan Film Festival, which runs October 4 through 11, 2007. This partnership will provide both Korean and international buyers and sellers attending the festival a single, daily source of market and global news and reviews from Cine 21 and The Reporter in both Korean and English. Established in 1995, Cine 21 is the leading film magazine in Korea, providing in-depth analysis of Korean film for more than 100,000 readers weekly.

“I am very pleased to co-produce Pusan Daily in 2007 with The Hollywood Reporter, one of the most authoritative and prestigious publications in the world,” said Kim Sang-yoon, CEO of Cine 21. “Cine 21, Korea's best film publication, has grown with the development of the Korean film industry. As the industry here works to reach the international community, we hope to provide the guidance and support to make that happen.”

The announcement of The Hollywood Reporter’s partnerships with major global publishers follows the recent announcements of expanded national day and date distribution to New York and other East Coast cities, the launch of a global digital edition of The Reporter in more than 12 languages, the availability of a weekly Korean-language Reporter newsletter and expanded international capabilities and coverage throughout Asia.
