Amid opposition to the Indo-Bangla border fencing by villagers, Secretary, Border Management, in the Home Ministry B S Lalli visited some areas of the international boundary in Meghalaya to assess the ongoing work.
Lalli, who had come to Guwahati to review the Assam Accord took some time off yesterday and visited areas of Meghalaya's Garo Hills region and Jaintia hills district. He was accompanied by senior officials of BSF's Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagland frontier.
The Home Ministry official also interacted with villagers in some places.
Villagers' in some areas of Khasi and Jaintia hills district complained that their land had fallen on the other side of the border due to demarcation of the boundary.
Fencing was suspended "for the time being" in those places, BSF sources said.
