A Delhi court today granted a day's transit remand to Yogesh, an accused in the case relating to suspected murder of Meerut College lecturer Kavita Rani, for his production in a court in Meerut. "In the interest of justice, one day transit remand is granted to the accused Yogesh who is directed to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on or before 2 p.M. On December 30," said Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau in her order. Yogesh was arrested by Delhi Police on December 20 under the Arms Act and had been in judicial custody since then. The court also allowed a car and a memory chip, reportedly recovered from Yogesh, to be taken by Uttar Pradesh Police investigating the case. The UP police claimed that as per the disclosure of the main accused Ravinder Singh, he along with Yogesh had taken the victim in the car on the spot where she was believed to have been murdered. The memory chip was also a vital piece of evidence as it might contain the film which would help the police in further investigation, submitted the Investigating Officer. Yogesh, terming himself as a victim of alleged political vendetta, expressed his apprehension of being killed in an encounter during his transit remand. He told the court that he was willing to coopearte with the UP police and requested the Delhi court to direct the police not to torture him. To this, the court said "he is an accused in a case here and he must be produced by tomorrow in safe and proper escort".
