Every Thursday and Sunday, a large number of villagers, irrespective of religious belief, visit the shrine of Saint Sheikh Fattah, revered for being an aide of Sikh Guru, Arjan Dev, in Taran Taran, carrying rice pudding in their hands. They do so to seek blessings for the well-being of their cattle. Devotees, mostly belonging to the agrarian community, come with deep reverence and bring with them Kheer or, milk and rice pudding. The pudding is mixed together and then distributed among the devotees. It is done as an offering to the saint to bless their animals. It is believed that Guru Arjan Dev had blessed the saint with miraculous powers. "Guru Arjan Dev blessed Sheikh Fattah that he would fulfil the wishes of people who come to him with Kheer (milk and rice pudding). Devotees from far and near offer Kheer at this shrine to get their wishes fulfilled," said Gyan Singh, a devotee. Besides, the villagers buy knickknacks like bells and nylon ropes for their cattle from the shops adjoining the shrine as a good luck charm. "We come here to get the blessings for our milch animals. Our animals are cured of any ailment that affects their milk production," said Mohinder, a devotee. "We take bells and nylon ropes from the shrine and tie it to our milch animals. We pray for the well-being of our cows and buffaloes," said Balwinder Singh, another devotee. Interestingly, the Prasad or, sacred food also makes the place a favourite food joint for stray cattle and dogs waiting for the pudding leftovers!
