White Mountain Labs, the innovative leader in test and characterization of advanced technologies, now offers complete electrical characterization of semiconductor products through its Automated Test Equipment (ATE) division, ClearTest ATE Services. The new business offering, called CZ Express, is a standardized methodology, which analyzes a sample of customer devices over temperature, voltage and process variation; and then generates a comprehensive characterization report back to the customer. The report becomes a valuable tool for the customer product engineer, as it identifies possible sensitivities that could develop into yield issues when the device is released to volume production. “Many customers bypass electrical characterization during new product development because of tight schedule constraints. Then, when the device is in volume production, unexplained yield problems arise which negatively affect the profitability of the device,” said John McCaffrey, vice president of ATE Test Services for White Mountain Labs. “We want to help customers predict the production yield of a given integrated circuit by characterizing it across real life extremes and then summarizing the results in a concise but detailed report. White Mountain Labs’ CZ Express is an important step in the new product development process, which helps the customer better understand the long-term manufacturability of the product.” White Mountain Labs’ engineers utilize a systematic approach to collect large quantities of electrical data on the selected ATE platform and then statistically reduce that data using industry leading data analysis tools. These advanced software tools take reams of test data and reduce them to a detailed but easy-to-read characterization report. The characterization report graphically displays exactly how the customer’s device will perform across all specification conditions and across predicted process variation, so manufacturability problems are uncovered before the device hits volume production. Additionally, White Mountain Labs’ engineers highlight possible sensitivities back to the customer and provide recommendations for improvement. “CZ Express standardizes and streamlines the characterization process to make it easy for the customer to assess long-term manufacturability of their product,” McCaffrey added. “Plus, once their device is released to production, they can archive our characterization report and refer back to it over the life of the product to understand future yield variations.” About White Mountain Labs White Mountain Labs was founded in December 1999 based on the conviction that a systematic approach to highly technical, “niche” semiconductor testing could produce clear data, enabling engineers to be successful in developing innovative products.
