Yamaha Marine Group announced today its F350 V8 5.3L four stroke outboard has been named a 2007 National Marine Manufacturers Association® Innovation Award recipient. The NMMA Innovation Awards, which were presented at the annual International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference® (IBEX) in Miami, recognized the most innovative OEM equipment and engines in the Marine Industry. Applicants are evaluated by a panel of eight judges who base their decisions on innovative distinction, benefit to the marine industry and the consumer, practicality and cost-effectiveness. “We are thrilled to be presented with a 2007 NMMA Innovation Award,” said Phil Dyskow, Yamaha Marine Group President. “The F350 is truly an industry-first and is changing the way off-shore boats are powered.” In addition to being the boating industry’s first V8 5.3-liter, four-stroke outboard motor, the 350-horspower Yamaha F350 is unique for the way in which it was developed – through Yamaha’s relationships with a diverse group of independent U.S. boat builders. Yamaha has now delivered more than 1,000 F350s to boat builders and the end result has produced rave reviews from builders, dealers and customers alike. "The new F350 Yamaha has exceeded our expectations,” said Dave Wallace of Scout Boats. “The power it delivers along with its smooth and quiet operation is revolutionary and something that has become a norm for Yamaha. Congratulations on another homerun." “The power and handling of these beasts are second to none. This is a dream come true for our commercial fisherman, oil field industry, and offshore enthusiasts,” said Mike Oncale of Southern Outdoors in Louisiana. “I would put this engine up against any motor on the market. From the quietness of the engine to the ease of the digital throttle, this motor is a gem!” “It looks like the new Yamaha F350 motor has been built upon the legacy of the F225 and F250 – drawing upon the reliability, fuel efficiency and design of those motors,” said Joseph Handy, a customer in N. Miami, Fla. “Again, Yamaha emerges the leader in four-stroke outboard engine technology.” Producing 350 prop-shaft rated horsepower, the F350 is designed to provide massive thrust for the heaviest off-shore outboard-powered boats. At the same time, displacement means the engine makes 350 horsepower without the strain and internal pressures found in high-output, small displacement engines. The F350 was designed from the beginning to power off-shore boats and provides up to 45 percent more thrust than 250-hp class outboards. The company’s first V8 outboard powerhead was designed specifically for the marine market and features more than 600 new parts. The design is a 60-degree V8 with 32 valves (four valves per cylinder) and double overhead cams. It uses variable camshaft timing to optimize the engine’s torque at low and mid-range rpm. With sequential, multi-point fuel injection, it has eight long intake tracks in the induction system to optimize power. In addition, it features In-Bank Exhaust with Dual Power Surge Chambers, a system that relieves pressure in the exhaust ports. Yamaha Marine products are marketed throughout the United States and around the world. Yamaha Marine Group, based in Kennesaw, Ga., supports its 2,200 U.S. dealers and OEM partners with marketing, training and parts for Yamaha’s full line of products and strives to be the industry leader in reliability, technology and customer service. Yamaha is the only outboard engine brand to have earned NMMA’s C.S.I. Customer Satisfaction Index award every year since its inception.
