Zacks Challenge Top Player Interview features Alcan Inc., NICE Systems Ltd.,

By: Business News

Zacks.com introduces its Fourth Quarter Challenge top player interviews, which feature insights from the leaders of the Zacks Simulator game. The Simulator allows investors to prove their stock picking abilities by competing directly against other players for prizes worth thousands of the dollars.

Zacks recently caught up with Robert Israel (aka: ribetz), who is learning that being “reckless” can help his chances in a short-term game such as the Zacks Fourth Quarter Stock Challenge. This Simulator contestant explained that while he is conservative in the real world stock market, he does a complete 180 when it comes to picking stocks for the contest. Some of the stocks that Robert has been trading include: Alcan Inc. (NYSE: AL), NICE Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: NICE), Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA), Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT), and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (NYSE: CNQ). Click here for the full story exclusively on Zacks.com: http://at.zacks.com/?id=2518

Highlights from the December 6 interview include:

What does he like?

The market enthusiast explained that he concentrates on Canadian resource names and some Israeli stocks. Robert is particularly fond of one Canadian oil and gas play, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (NYSE: CNQ). ” I bought it for $42.47 at the start of October when resource stocks (especially natural gas) were low. By the end of the month it was in the low 50's. I think it still has potential to rise another few dollars by the end of the year,” commented Robert.

Some of his other trades have included: Alcan Inc. (NYSE: AL), NICE Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: NICE), Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA) and Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT). Click here to check out this competitor’s entire portfolio: http://at.zacks.com/?id=3314.

How does he know when to buy and when to sell?

Perhaps Robert’s profitable Simulator picks are proof that the best way to get into investing may be to just jump right in. This stock picker does not set up elaborate investment screens or employ a strict buy/sell criteria. When it comes to buying, Robert looks for volatility and the potential for price increases. He listens to his intuition for sell signals.

Robert reminds readers that this is not necessarily the way he trades with real money. However, if it is working in his Simulator portfolio, this market player may start taking on more risk with his real portfolio. This is the beauty of the Simulator. It is a great way to experiment with trading strategies that investors may fear testing in the real market.
