Why has Auschwitz-Birkenau changed its name? The death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau is the place where millions people were killed. The camp commandant, Rudolf Höss, testifed at the Nuremberg Trials that 3 million people had died Holocaust Memorial Day Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January) is a national event in the United Kingdom dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. It was first held in January 2001, and has been on 27 January every year since. The chosen date is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945. Internship at the Oswiecim The school was founded under regulations issued by the Council of Ministers on June 7, 2005. It is one of the most important educational institutions in Oœwiecim (Auschwitz), along with the recently founded International Education Center at the Museum. One purpose of such institutions of higher education is to provide low-cost studies for young people from localities without universities. The Jagiellonian University is the patron of the school and supplies some of its personnel.
